Secrets to younger looking skin...

In maintaing a positive image it is vital that we look after our skin. We cannot stop the aging process but we can take on board some ways on how to prevent premature aging.

STYLEDGE Image Consulting has some great tips to younger looking skin.
1 Always, always wear sunscreen to prevent the skin from aging. The sun is largely responsible for wrinkles, liver spots, pigmentation and uneven skin tone. Sunglasses provide protection and helps to reduce crows feet... well there is botox!

2 Don't smoke! Studies have shown that smoking damages the elastin and collagen fibres found in the skin, making it less firm and resilient. Smoking inhibits your circulation, thus depriving your skin cells of oxygen.

3 To kep your skin healthy do use a daily skin care regime. It takes a few minutes, morning and evening and your skin will thank you for it.

4 SMILE!!! Your face tends to adapt to the expressions you carry most of the time. If you often frowl or scowl, your skin is more likely to to develop lines or wrinkles in those areas. A relaxed and happy face will keep you looking younger.

5 Sleeping on your face can cause wrinkles.. sleeping in the same position most of the night for years can permanetly crease your skin. So if you find it hard to sleep on your back like myself, invest in a satin pillow. Your face will thank you for it.

Wardrobe Malfunctions

We wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time!! Which means we have lots of clothes hanging in our closet and wasting space. I would rather have a wardrobe with less clothes that I absolutely loved than a whole lot of clothes that will just "make do"
Why we encounter wardrobe malfunctions???
1 Clothes we used to wear have become outdated.
2 Body shapes do change and we need to make necessary adjustments and work with what we've got.
3 Embrace colour but beware, our colours do change as we age. We become cooler and greyer. So avoid super bright tones unless you feel you can still get away with it.
4 Dump the frump and dress age appropriately, I see more womem looking older than they are due poor choices. Learn to modify the trends that suit where you are at today.
5 Express yourself, your clothes convey messages, what do your clothes say abou you?

Not sure how to pull it all together, you are not alone. Styledge Image Consulting can hep you project your most confident and authentic self.
Why look good when you can look GREAT!!

Dress For Success: Creating a Professional Image by Lillian D. Bjorseth: The Sideroad

Dress For Success: Creating a Professional Image by Lillian D. Bjorseth: The Sideroad: "Dress For Success: Creating a Professional Image
The success of any personal encounter begins the second someone lays eyes on you ... often long before either of you speaks. A professional image - appearance and behavior - helps start the experience in the right vein since people decide 10 things about you within 10 seconds of seeing you.
The business casual look that really took hold in the 1990s workplace has made it more difficult to look as professional and powerful as before B.C. While some laud the trend, others think it shows less respect for self and others.
Dress for the occasion.
If the occasion is business,
Then dress as if you mean business.

Women frequently suffer more negative career consequences from business casual dress than men because they have far more choices. Women often choose leggings, stirrup pants, mini skirts and skorts. For men, casual typically means pants and a shirt or sweater. Their biggest fault may be to choose jeans or sweat pants or muscle T-shirts.
Learning the art of impression management - planning how you look and how you act to get a certain reaction - is sure to impact your career or business more favorably!
You tell others how to treat you. Your business associates and coworkers mirror whether you want to be treated as Number One or Number Ten in your area of expertise and how much respect you want."

Christmas Office Parties Do’s and Don’ts.

With most of you attending the annual Christmas party and no doubt indulging in some Christmas cheer you still need to act in a appropriate and professional manner.
Here is a list of do’s and don’ts to help you maintain your credibility in the festive season.

1 Do act as if your conduct is being observed, because it probably is.

2 Don’t pull out the nightclub attire, and do check if the dress code is formal, cocktail or smart casual.

3 Do keep all conversations above board, don’t gossip, whinge or complain to colleagues. Do avoid controversial topics such as religion, sex and politics.

4 Do take the time to network and introduce yourself to colleagues you are not too familiar with. A holiday party is a great way to build and strengthen business relationships. Don’t forget to thank the host for planning and coordinating the party.

5 Don’t drink too excessively just because there is an open bar and do keep your drink in your left hand so you are not offering wet and sloppy handshakes all evening.

6 Do have fun with the colours this season and don’t wear too much black!!

Your Wardrobe Choices Pt3

LOVE YOUR CLOTHES
Besides your wardrobe fitting and suiting your shape, colouring and proportions, you really should absolutely love what you wear. Our clothes represent who we are, so buy clothes which are compatible with you.

Do you LOVE it?
Our wardrobe should be an exciting place to visit rather than a place of constant frustration but unfortunately the latter often applies. To love something means that garment or accessory makes you feel amazing or inspires you in some way.

Your wardrobe tells a story, and to figure out the plotline, you need to see its heroes and villains. How do we spot those items that once looked fantastic but may not be age appropriate anymore? Simply remove all items that don’t flatter you or represent your current image and replace them with ones that do.

You can make a statement everyday by the choices you make. Whether you have a little drama in your shoe, or a signature piece of jewelry that really makes a statement. Perhaps a cute ruffle here and there revealing your romantic side, these can be the subtle or not so subtle ways of expressing your individuality.

Find ways to have fun with your clothes, take some risks. Less is more. Better to have less and love more than to have more and to love less!

Always remember when shopping…
Does it suit and flatter you?
Does it fit you?
Do you love it?

Your Wardrobe Choices Pt 2

Last month Styledge Image Consulting discussed how your wardrobe should be a fun and inspiring place to visit instead. We want to get dressed not stressed!!
Today we are looking at the second point of what should be hanging in your wardrobe!!!
I believe everything in your wardrobe should...SUIT YOU!
1.Your colouring and complexion. Wearing the right colours in the right contrast is vital for you to look your absolute best. Using your personal swatch enables you to select the right colours every time. Perhaps you are confident in choosing some of your colours but why not open up your world and embrace all your colours. The great thing is, everything in your wardrobe will connect beautifully so creating your daily outfits becomes a breeze.
2. Your body shape. We all aspire to resemble the hourglass in some form but there is no such as the perfect body, so please accept your shape and coordinate your clothes to accentuate the great and mitigate the not so great. Find a sil-houette that‟s suits your shape and stick to it!
3. Your personality. Every day you have the op-portunity to express your identity by choosing clothes which represent who you are. Defining your personality is a journey. Your clothes should excite you and make you feel and look great whatever the occasion. Garments that have hangar appeal will have to pass the personality test; does this look really speak your language!

Your Wardrobe Choices

Styledge Image Consulting believes your wardrobe should be a fun and inspiring place to visit, but most often we become totally frustrated by trying to work out what we should wear. We have to make choices about what style or which look we would like to portray every single day. No wonder many struggle with this daily routine!

When we look good, we feel good and when we feel good not only do we treat ourselves differently but others treat us differently too. We tend to be more productive and feel totally confident about ourselves. So looking good can certainly make a difference and impact our world in a positive way.

“When a woman is poorly dressed, you notice the clothes, when a woman is impeccably dressed you notice the woman” - Coco Chanel.

Styledge believes everything in your wardrobe should...

Fit you! Often we have clothes that just don’t fit correctly. Whether you have outgrown them or vice versa, having a wardrobe full of clothes that don’t fit properly is not only frustrating but depressing. Remove them from your sight, and put them in a suitcase if you are think you may fit into them again. A closet full of ill fitting clothes is hardly inspiring.
Clothes that are too big can be just a unflattering as clothes that are way too tight. Always note the fit and if you are ever unsure check out the four basic types of fit which are: Boxy Soft, Boxy Stiff, Semi Fitted and Very Fitted. Depending on your size and shape there is the perfect fit which will suit your silhouette perfectly!

Spring Clean

It is such a satisfying feeling when we finally rack up the courage and the energy to hit those long awaiting cupboards, closets, garages, basements and spare rooms to purge and de-clutter items that are no use to us anymore.
You may need to call your dearest and closest friends, or perhaps the local priest, to help you lay to rest those things you know that “just have to go”.
My suggestion is have a final word of prayer in memory of such things that once gave you pleasure and bury all items and know they are going to a better place. Wipe your tears of grief and then enjoy the fact that those great pieces that remain can be put to good use by enhancing and updating your look for this season.
Let me help you go where you don't really want to go. Trust me, you will thank me for it later!!
How To Create Harmony Out Of Closet Chaos???
1 Items to keep
Those that require no alterations
Those that are in harmony with your personality
Those that flatter your figure and make you feel good
2 Items that need attention
Those with missing buttons
Those that require alteration
Those that require another item to be purchased before it can be worn
3 Items that need to be given away or discarded
Any item that is too small or too large
Any items that no longer fit well
Any items that have dated
Any item that has not be worn for over 12 months
Any items that are an uncomplimentary style on you
Anything you like in theory, but hate when you put it on
4 With the clothes you have left
Remove those not in season and either store or pack them away until next season. This will give you a clearer view of what have to wear and allow the remaining clothes to breathe and not get crushed.
Remove clothes from wire hangars and replace them with high quality padded or curved hangars. These allow garments to hang in their natural lines and minimise the need to re-iron your clothes… gotta love that!
5 Make a wardrobe inventory of what you have left
Make an inventory of the clothes you have remaining. List each garment in your wardrobe, then add to the list all the items that it co ordinates with, including your accessories.
Try on all the combinations ensuring they all look good on the body.
Explore all possible combinations you have with remaining garments and place them back into your wardrobe.
Determine what items you need to buy in order to expand your options and update your look.
Buying an accessory like a new handbag, a pair of shoes or the latest costume jewellery is the easiest way to update a not so current garment, giving a fresh look to your existing wardrobe.
Be brave and hop to it, you’ll be glad you did.

Spring has Sprung!!!

Spring is here at last! Time to sift through our wardrobe and get rid of the dead wood. Garments that do not represent who we truly are should be swiftly removed so that the clothes we choose to wear on a daily basis are a reflection of our inner selves.
When we establish our personal style we learn to shop with purpose and discernment. Garments that have hanger appeal will have to pass the style test. Seriously when it comes down to it does the garment speak our language?
Personal style is a journey of self discovery and it is important that we own our style and that it gels with our personality, goals and lifestyle!

Slimming Strategies

There are many slimming strategies which work wonders. Dressing is all about accentuating the good and mitigating the not so good. Once you put the rules of line and design plus the power of colour into practice, your clothes will become your friend and not your foe.
Here are 3 slimming strategies for you to apply:
1 Great underwear!! Don’t laugh but Nancy Gance can save hours of slaving in the gym when it comes to hiding those nasty lumps and bumps. There are many undergarments around, and they can be miracle workers. Please don’t forget a well fitted bra. When was the last time you were fitted? It really does make a difference.
2 Monochromatic dressing. Wearing colours in the same hue but of different value can take kilo’s off. Not only do you look slimmer but taller too!
3 The one size fits all syndrome. This is such a common mistake often made. Buying oversize garments creates the illusion that you are bigger than you are. Embrace your shape and show me your waist!

Define Your Style

Once you discover your own individual style you will never be dictated to by the latest trends or outlandish fashions that bombard us every season. I have said in the past and I will say it again that just because something is in fashion does not mean it’s going to look fashionable on you. Developing your own sense of style is so liberating because you choose what defines you and not what you see currently in the shops or in the latest magazines.
We have looked up to fashion icons such as Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, Princess Dianna and many others because they give us a sense of direction on how to put certain looks together.
Apart from knowing what colours suit our complexion and what styles suit our body shape it is as vitally important to tie it all together by knowing our personality style.
Style is something that evolves over time. It is something that can be taught and developed as we begin to spy out the various looks we love and adapt them into our wardrobe and make them work!
In our 20’s we are experimenting with our youth and we can have fun with our image.
In our 30’s as our lifestyle changes we are on the journey to finding “our” style.
In our 40’s it’s about establishing a style that will take us into our 50’ s, 60’ s and beyond. It is a place where we create a sense of peace, acquired wisdom and beauty.
STYLeDGE will unlock your personal style so that you will make a great first impression every time. Call today for your Personal Style File, you will love it!

Most Women want to look Youthful, not necessarily Younger.

Let me list 5 keys to maintaining a youthful appearance regardless of your age:

1.Inner Outlook; a positive and optimistic outlook creates a joyful spirit, smiling eyes and a peaceful countenance.

2. Good food and exercise; helps you feel and look younger. Exercise will stimulate muscles, increases metabolism and relaxes your mind.

3. Hairstyle; changing your hairstyle is one of best ways to look youthful. A modern haircut can takes years off. It lifts and rejuvenates the face and elongates the neck. Don’t forget colour! Colouring your hair is probably the most dramatic thing you can do to turn back the clock. Choose wisely, try a colour that is as close to your natural colouring as possible. !

4. Eyebrows; beautifully shaped eyebrows act as a frame to set off the eyes, just as a hairstyle frames the face. It has been said that a brow shape can make — or break, your look.

5. Eyewear; size does matter! Ultra large prescription glasses look ridiculous. Anything out of sync with the rest of society will leave you looking aged and out of date.

Hi Girls,
Today we are living in such an image-conscious society. So many choices, so many promises. Yet, some women go to great lengths to hold onto their youth. But are the results worth it? Is the statement “no pain, no gain” true or false?
Age is not a number, it is an attitude. We can look fantastic at any age so don’t let a number dictate the way we dress. Despite this, I do realise we can trip up trying to look absolutely fabulous instead looking like mutton dressed up as lamb. Let me ask you this, when should Tina Turner stop wearing her outrageous short skirts to reveal her luscious legs?
I say as long as she possibly can!!

Your Inner Image

Your Inner Image
This is the substance of who a person is. It is the real you. The bedrock on which every act of your life has been and will be played out.
Understanding who you are is embracing all those elements that reside within. It is called Inner Image.
These are the central elements that make up “who you are”, what and how you think, and how you behave and react in every situation. It is “your reality” and it governs what you want and what you expect out of life. It also sets the limitations from which you live and behave.
Besides your size, shape and proportion and your colouring, it is where you were brought up, your home, the company you keep and work associates. It’s milieu.
Combining all the above attributes determines the way you dress, which sends a message about who you are and how you want the world to see you. Clothes are the biggest form of non-verbal communication. So imagine as you prepare to get dressed everyday, project yourself on a giant billboard. How will people respond to your image and what impression will you give?
Food for thought, isn't it?

Monday, June 15, 2009

“Life is too short to wear a bad outfit” I heard a young and upcoming designer say. I totally agree! You don't have to have all the latest fashions in your wardrobe to look great. Just because something is in fashion doesn't mean it’s going to look fashionable on you.
Clothes do have hanger appeal but we get bitterly disappointed when that gorgeous dress we fell in love with doesn't love us!
You have to understand your body shape and know the best colours for your complexion. Putting the right styles together with your best colours makes such a difference.
How true it is when you look good you feel good, it's that simple!

Dressing is easy, looking good is not!

Dressing is easy but looking good is hard…..
As much as we love Kath and Kim and we can laugh at their sense of ‘umour but their dress sense is less than desirable.
We all see or know people (including ourselves, shudder the thought) who have on the odd occasion got their look totally wrong! So how do we avoid making those mistakes?
First of all we have to really know and understand our body shape because certain styles will suit certain body shapes. This is what we call our silhouette. Secondly, the garment has to fit well and thirdly it must be in proportion, which is determined by our vertical shape. When we understand these three important components the art of dressing becomes easier.
In addition to body shape, fit and proportion, it is just a matter of your own sense of style, quality and taste that will define your own look.
It takes a lifetime to develop your individual style. Booking in for your very own personal colour and style analysis, STYLEDGE will help you discover your unique style, giving you the all the confidence you need for every occasion.

The Power of Colour

Colour affects every moment of our lives even though most of our colour choices are unconscious. Colour subconsciously plays an important role in the psychology of humans. It can be a major persuasion factor in our emotions and it can seriously raise our mood or bring us down, especially if we have associated a colour with a particular idea, event or person. Even the colours in the natural world have a predictable general effect on people.
Colour is reflective, so when worn near the face it reflects up onto the skin hair and eyes.
Colour can enhance or detract from a person’s appearance.
Colour can be advancing or retreating; depending on the value and intensity of colour it can appear to make an area larger or smaller.
Colour is emotional; the colours around us can change our moods, make us more or less active, productive, amorous and even glamorous.
Colour can affect us physiologically; colours act upon the body and the mind.
Colour has the power to evoke psychological reactions.
Have your own personal colour analysis, it will change your life!

What sort of Coffee are You???

WHAT SORT OF COFFEE ARE YOU?
Because it is something that most people consume, coffee is a great way to illustrate the power of image.

Moccona has a very good reputation and is priced at a premium. It is in an attractively shaped glass bottle dressed with a gold wrapper. It feels substantial when held. It is quick and easy to make plus it tastes good. It also is very consistent.

Home Brand on the other hand has a dubious reputation. It looks plain and cheap. It has no handling appeal and commonly tastes ordinary and cannot be relied upon.

Looking at both jars of coffee, which one appeals most to you. Which one would you choose based on its image only?

When we think about certain trade marks and icons such as Disneyland and Coca Cola, immediately we get a picture of what those words represent. What sort of picture or impression do you wish to leave when meeting someone for the first time, going to an interview or when you are just out and about?
We have less than 7 seconds to make an impression which means our clothes are the most powerful form of non verbal communication.
Our clothes are speaking... what are you clothes saying about you???

Your Image Matters

What is Image?
One definition of image is: The perception held by the public about a person, product or organisation.
Everyday we unconsciously decide who and what we bring into our lives; from the products we buy to whom we choose to be friends with and do business with. We live in a fast moving world and now have to make snap decisions based on our intuition. Thus the perception of others can make or break careers, concepts and organisations.
Portraying the right image is vitally important. What we wear has a direct effect on how we feel and how we project ourselves. Our image influences our thinking, our feelings and our behaviour, but most of all how others interact with us. Our image affects their thoughts, feelings and behaviour also.
Opportunities are gained and lost based solely on another’s first impression of us. The type of clothes we wear, how they are worn and the condition they are in all speaks volumes about who we are.
Clothes are powerful universal elements of non-verbal communication that say many things about who we are and what we are like, where we have come from and where we are going.
Improving your image will not only maximise your potential for greatness but give you the results you desire to achieve your goals and dreams.

Change is GOOD!!

Change is good.

Many of us can be opposed to change because we like routine, structure and formats. Being stuck in a paradigm however, can also cause limitations both internally and externally, especially when it comes to image.

It may take the smallest thing to bring change to your appearance which will make an impact to the way you look. Most of my clients come to me because they are either stuck in a style rut or simply have lost their confidence when it comes to fashion. When you recognise the time for change and are willing to implement some rules of line and design for your particular shape, you will enhance and improve your image. Styledge is about revolutionising the way you dress forever and maximising your potential. Let’s face it girls, our clothes speak. What do you want your clothes to say about you?

The most important factors you have to consider when updating your look are :

1 Your lifestyle.

2 Age appropriate.

3 Your personality.

4 Your goals.

I am convinced that having your own personal colour and style consultation will not only empower you, it will also help you achieve the best look for you. You will be well equipped for life and know exactly what will look hot and what will not.

It is so simple, and you are worth it!

What do women want?

When I think about that famous question “what do women want” apart from another pair of shoes!! I have come to understand that there can only be one answer and that is….. Everything! It makes sense even when we are not exactly sure sometimes, and that happens, there is no doubt, we want it all! If you are anything like me you don’t want to miss out on anything and if it is available why can’t we have it?
I have learnt that in the search of all we wish to obtain in life, patience is a virtue and a pain in the neck but there are times where we have to put our dreams and goals on hold in order to help those close to us and not so close to fulfil theirs.
But I am a great believer in Karma, you reap what you sow and in time your desires will come to pass. So what is it that your heart desires, what do you dream about at night. What do you really want? And more importantly how you will obtain it?
There is much opposition that will come against us in the pursuit of our dreams but whatever life throws at us lets be determined to not give up, maintain a good attitude and stay positive.
In achieving your dreams, may involve a lot of hard work, discipline and that horrible word sacrifice, but I assure you will enjoy the fruits of your labour and no doubt feel the elation of triumph where you can relish in your hard earned accomplishments.
So put on your dream machine once more. Do not let past mistakes, failures and disappointments get in the way.
Make your wish list today and remember no matter how big or how small your dreams, they matter....

7. Day dress. Classic or Romantic Goth. Find your look and live in it.

9. Boots. Grab a pair in tan, chocolate or black to wear under your skirt and dresses to make a statement this season,
10. Pencil Skirt. Call me old fashioned but this skirt will never date. Its classy and always dependable.

Do you know your bra size??

Most women 70% actually (and I know via first hand experience) are not wearing the right size bra!! After a visit to DJ’s returning a lovely bra and knickers set that my darling husband bought me (in the wrong size!), I was shocked and surprised that the girls had gone up a cup!!
